new addition

Pls note: this was after a rather large dinner and long day. Really.

we are delighted to share that we are expecting a new addition on or around 11/24/12! we are 16 weeks along and the baby and mommy (me!) are healthy and GROWING....

in about a month, we will have our 20 week ultrasound and learn the gender. we are excited and ready to get the nursery ready for baby underwood. the baby was not very cooperative on our last ultrasound visit, but here are some of the best photos... s/he still looks a little like a tadpole with the exception of those very straight little legs and tush!

this old house

our house was originally built in 1913. I often think about the number of lives, families, and memories this house has known. It is hard to imagine how many girls may have received their first goodnight kiss on our front porch, how birthdays and Christmas mornings people celebrated near our fireplace, or how many family meals were cooked in our kitchen. it is all pretty cool to consider. we bought our home in 2008 and have steadily been making improvements to it.

first was the exterior - it was in dire need of a face lift. here is the before:

we remodeled our upstairs bathroom last year, keeping the original cast iron claw foot tub. it has become my favorite room in the house, nothing like escaping with a bubble bath, good book... and yeah, a glass of wine works too! we are currently in the process of remodeling our basement to create a real "media/guest room" and begin to take advantage of a sizeable portion of our home that we have never used. in fact, as I write I am listening to the tile guy cutting tile below me and the dogs are going nuts over the unfamiliar sound of Russian being spoken by men in our home. it is fun to make changes to your home to make it your own, but I also love to try to keep the spirit of the original 1913 home. as I have previously mentioned - we decided upon moving in that we needed to throw a party in honor of its "centennial" in 2013. will keep you posted!

kyle originally gave me barley as a birthday gift in 2007.... best birthday gift ever! for my 30th birthday - we agreed barley needed a friend.... we fell in love with a mutt we later named murphy. he is a lovable scruff we adopted from the tri-cities. he and barley became fast friends and now they are inseparable.

travel has always been a part of our lives together... we have had the opportunity to travel near, far, with friends, on our lonesome and just the two of us. the way I like to discover a new place is truly by immersing myself in the food and culture. I love trying whatever the local delicacies/fare are and trying to get off that tourist bandwagon. of course - there are those mandatory photo op exceptions.

blog revival

this blog was originally intended to act as our wedding planning website. as it fulfilled that duty beautifully, nearly 3 years ago... I retired from blogging. just recently I caught up on some of my friends blogs and it was so nice. with work and grown up responsibilities, it becomes hard to catch up as much as we might like to in person. therefore - I have decided for a little "blog resuscitation 101." I will try to catch you up to speed on our life over the past 3 years...
